Rock Opera
A performance prepared to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the City of Płock being awarded the Cross of Valour.
The libretto, written by Mariusz Pogonowski, is based on diaries and firsthand accounts of the battle’s participants, published in the book “Płock 1920” by Grzegorz Gołębiewski.
The performance portrays the events that took place between 12:00 noon on 18 August 1920 and 6:00 a.m. the following morning. The narrative unfolds entirely within the words used by the participants themselves to recount their experiences. It is a tribute to the fallen, an expression of respect and admiration for the heroes, and a story filled with powerful emotions worthy of a Hollywood production.
This is a story that unfolded on the streets of Płock—Kwiatka, Kolegialna, 1 Maja, Kościuszki, the Old Market Square, and Tumska Street—where traces of those events can still be found on the buildings today. The descendants of the fallen live among us, and one of them, Adam Gradowski, will appear on stage before the audience.
It is a story that left a lasting mark on the people of Płock and became part of history under the name “The Miracle on the Vistula.”
